Like a month an a half ago I was at H E Holmes train station. I was coming from my mother’s house on the way to my home. The #3 bus is the bus I usually take to get home and the bus was sitting at the train station. I didn’t have a bus schedule so I asked the bus driver how long do he have before he pulls off. He replied in a very rude way, “I have 9 inches” and grabbed his private part. I felt so violated and scared. I replied, “Sir what’s wrong with you? Are you drunk or something?” He replied, “You said How long do I have, I said 9 inches.” I was so embarrassed and shocked that a Marta bus driver would say such a thing. I reported him to a supervisor and she said she’s going to take action. Then about a week later I got a call from Marta telling me that the situation was handled. The bus driver is now no longer a employee there. I felt relieved but still violated. Why did they even hire a person like that anyway? Me being so embarrassed and hurt, I couldn’t even report back to work cause I couldn’t focus. The only thing that was in my head was that the bus driver told me something real rude and i cant get over it.

Uhm, sorry, but I really think it was just a joke. A stupid joke, yes. But still a joke…
He didn’t say something threatening or obscene about you.
You could just have said “Only 9 inches? My boyfriend has 10 inches…”
Jeppe, while I appreciate your other comments and have published them, I almost did not post this comment. I think you are failing to grasp how insulting and degrading an experience like this can be. Regardless of the intent (for it to be a “joke”) not only was the subject completely inappropriate, the context itself escalates the behavior as being even more aggressive and inappropriate. An employee of the city, but really any person, should not feel the need to address a woman or any other person in this manner. I know that personally, when people I don’t know make sexually aggressive jokes to me, it immediately sets me off and makes me tense and feel incredibly unsafe. Imagine suddenly feeling this first thing in the morning, with no warning, way on your way to work? It’s really not fair that people feel they have the right to invade on others lives in this manner.
Jessica, I’m so glad to hear that MARTA actually responded.
Jeppe, let me suggest you do some more reading on this website, and others like it. Jokes like that are for people you know. Not for customers, not for strangers. It’s just ugly. Even if it takes a while, you will eventually understand it.
Thanks for asking for help, Jeppe.
What I do not understand is why this feeling arises, just because the bus driver was talking about his cock. I assume I have misunderstood something …. but I do not know what it is.
Why feel offended because a man makes a joke about his dick? He didn’t take it out of his pants, and he said nothing demeaning to her or threatened her.
I do not understand. Inform me.
Jeppe, Would you care if someone said that to your sister or mother??? Would you not see that it is not funny in that context??
Jessica, if you ever come back to this thread, I want you to know how much I admire your response to Jeppe. I notice he hasn’t come back, which is sort of too bad.
